Individuals, whether independently or with assistance, shall utilize the MyPlate theory with regards to training each individual to know and recognize the four basic food groups, and be able to assist in planning and shopping for well-balanced and nutritious meals. They should be able to demonstrate, whether independently or with assistance, stove safety and kitchen techniques. These shall include chopping; paring; grating; boiling; frying; baking and using a microwave. The individual shall also be taught to know and recognize kitchen measuring techniques. Other skills that must be acquired are cleaning, washing, preparing, storing and disposing of food appropriately, again either independently or with assistance.
All grocery shopping shall be done at the neighborhood grocery store with the emphasis on budgeting and meal planning. The individuals shall be assisted with making grocery lists, clipping coupons and purchasing items.
